My
glasswork is significantly inspired by the beauty of the natural
world. Discovering the energetic principles
and distilling complex natural patterns down to designs which
express the feeling and spirit behind the familiar world we
tend to inhabit is where my passion lies. This energetic essence
which I am seeking to understand is expressive of the fact
that all life and natural forms are constantly in motion and
interacting with one another. These forces of life and movement
leave traces which we experience as our physical environment,
as images. My designs include a quality of mystery so that
the viewer’s process of discovery and free association
is continuous. I like to think of glass as a slow moving liquid,
rather than a hard brittle material.
“Eidos” is an ancient Greek word referring to image, essence, and
form.

| It has been my good fortune to enjoy a home
in the pristine natural environment of the San Juan Islands
for the past 30 years. My studio is in a 100 year old, hand
hewn timber frame barn, overlooking a huge marsh filled with
bird life and the interplay of light, wind, and water. My
family and I live in a clearing in the midst of large undisturbed
woods, where we grow most of our own vegetables and fruit
year round. Choosing this lifestyle allows me to be immersed
on a daily basis in the patterns, forms, colors and feelings
which inspire my artwork. |
